Recent updates to the NLDN sensors allow recording of full-waveform lightning strike data. The issue is this goes from recording a dozen samples for each strike to
recording thousands of samples for each lightning strike. The transmission, storage, and processing of full waveform lightning strike data is expensive in time and storage.
As we identify and develop ways to use full-waveform data, we anticipate it will become required for exploration projects. This requires fiber transmission and petabye storage.
